The popular South African comedian and entertainer Trevor Noah has revealed that he regrets not investing in Bitcoin (BTC) when it was still very cheap and obscure. He made this confession during the Web Summit Qatar 2024, a major tech conference held in Doha from February 26 to 29.
Noah’s Biggest Mistake
Noah, who is best known for his role as the former host of The Daily Show, was speaking about his passion for technology and the rise of artificial intelligence. He also admitted that another mistake was not taking the time to understand the cryptocurrency and how it works.
Noah’s Previous Comments on Crypto
This is not the first time that Noah has talked about crypto and NFT trading. He often joked about the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin, the volatility of crypto prices, and significant market crashes, including the collapse of FTX, on The Daily Show. He left the show in September 2022, saying that his time was up.
In 2018, he was a victim of false rumors that claimed he was leaving the show to pursue Bitcoin trading through an investment scheme called “Bitcoin Revolution South Africa.” However, those articles have since been deleted.
Web Summit Qatar 2024
The Web Summit Qatar 2024 is a prominent tech conference that focuses on discussions surrounding fintech and artificial intelligence. During the opening session, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, the Prime Minister of Qatar, announced a significant investment of $1 billion by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) in regional and international venture capital funds to support emerging technologies and entrepreneurs.
The event also featured other speakers from various fields, such as Elon Musk, Jack Dorsey, Mark Zuckerberg, and Oprah Winfrey.
Bitcoin Price Hits 25-Month High
Meanwhile, Bitcoin has reached its highest level in over two years, surpassing $57,000 on February 27. The cryptocurrency has gained 34% over the past 30 days and is now just 18.5% below its all-time high of $69,000, which it achieved in November 2021.
Bitcoin’s market capitalization has also exceeded $1.1 trillion again, making it more valuable than many countries and companies. Some analysts predict that Bitcoin could reach $6 trillion if it becomes digital gold and a reliable store of value.
